Franklin NC Police COVID-19 Information

During the COVID-19 pandemic the world is currently facing, the Franklin Police Department will continually evaluate and update its day-to-day operations as needed.  Changes in operation and response protocols will be implemented to protect sworn and non-sworn personnel and the public as we continue to serve the community.

Sadly Covid-19 numbers are on the rise. Please see below guidance from Town Management. Let’s all do our part to keep each other safe!

Starting Monday August 16, 2021 all visitors to town owned buildings will be required to wear a mask to enter the buildings.

Patrols / Calls for Service
Officers will continue residential and business patrols within the town.

Officers responding to calls for service will conduct their response outdoors whenever possible in order to maintain the recommended six-foot social distancing recommendation. 

Officers will continue responding to calls for service involving: violence, threats involving bodily injury, crimes in progress, motor vehicle accidents, motor vehicle thefts and or recoveries, felonious larcenies, runaway juveniles, calls for service where evidence is present and the collection of evidence and photographs is probable and any call the shift supervisors deems necessary.

Officers will assess non-emergency and non-violent calls for service to determine whether or not a report can be taken over the phone or if it needs to be in person.  Examples of calls that may be handled by phone include but are not limited to: lost property excluding lost firearms, Identity theft, theft from a motor vehicle excluding theft involving a firearm, property damage, vandalism where there’s no perpetrator or physical evidence present and the damage is minimal, misdemeanor larcenies where there’s no perpetrator or physical evidence present and the loss is less than $1000

Business Office
The department’s business office will be closed to the public until further notice.

Anyone visiting the department needing emergency assistance will need to:
1. Press the help/911 button located to the right of the entry door to speak with a dispatcher.
2. Explain their emergency to the dispatcher
3. Follow the dispatcher’s advice

Anyone visiting the department needing non-emergency assistance during normal business hours Monday through Friday between 9 A.M. – 5 P.M. will need to:
1. Press the info/office call button located to the right of the entry door to speak with an agency representative.
2. If you are unable to reach an agency representative via the info/office call button, press the help/911 button and a dispatcher will contact an officer to assist you.
3. If you need to speak with an officer in person, one will meet you outside in the parking lot while maintaining the recommended six-foot social distancing recommendation.

Anyone visiting the department needing non-emergency assistance outside regular business hours, during weekends and holidays will need to:
1. Press the help/911 button located to the right of the entry door and a dispatcher will contact and officer to assist you.
2. If you need to speak with an officer in person, one will meet you outside in the parking lot while maintaining the recommended six-foot social distancing recommendation.
